Public Engagement Award

This award will recognise high-quality public engagement, both of pharmacology research and inspiring the public about pharmacology generally. It will also raise awareness within the pharmacology community of the importance of demonstrating pharmacology across a diverse range of public audiences.

Winners will receive £1,000, be presented with the award during Pharmacology 2024, and be invited to share details of their initiative.

Types of Engagement

  • Activities that share pharmacology research with public groups – this could include broadcasting, exhibitions, social media activities or public lectures.
  • Activities that inform the public about pharmacology and its role in either human or animal health – this could include outreach projects in schools, online or in the local community.


  • Relevance to pharmacology
  • Quality of the initiative
  • Evidence of qualitative or quantitative evaluations which show the benefits or outcomes from the engagement and how it could evolve.
  • Efforts to ensure accessibility of participation will also be considered regarding equity, diversity and inclusion.


  • Nominations from BPS members only – candidates can be members, non-members, individuals, or teams.
  • Self-nomination is encouraged.
  • Initiatives must have been carried out within the last 18 months.
  • Candidates may be working in any setting, including but not limited to academia, clinical, industry or the media.
  • Applications are subject to the Awards Terms and Conditions


  • A concise statement on up to 2 pages, providing details of the activity, intended audiences, aims and evaluation.
  • You must use Arial 11 and Moderate margins.
