The British Pharmacological Society is calling for members to apply/nominate others for the role of our new Elected Trustee Clinical, starting 1 January 2027.

The application deadline has been extended to 12pm (GMT) on 21 October 2026.

The role is critical to the development of the Society, and we encourage all eligible members to put themselves forward. By taking on a leadership role, you will help the Society achieve its mission to promote and advance the discipline of pharmacology in all its forms, and deliver impactful work for the benefit of pharmacology and pharmacologists.

The Elected Trustee Clinical will work collaboratively with the Trustees, Committee Vice Presidents and the staff team to ensure the successful delivery of the Society’s 2026-2030 strategy. The Elected Trustee Clinical will provide guidance and support for the clinical functions at the Society. The post-holder will advise Council on matters relating to promoting and advancing pharmacology and therapeutics, particularly the clinical specialty.

As a Trustee, the Elected Trustee (Clinical) is a voluntary role in which the postholder must comply with Trustee Duties, Requirements and Commitments, which includes abiding by the Society’s Code of Conduct for Trustees and Vice Presidents.

As a Trustee, you will be noted on the Companies House and Charity Commission websites as a Director and Trustee, respectively, of the British Pharmacological Society.

Along with those requirements and a general interest in and knowledge of the activities of the Society, this role also requires the following:

Responsibilities

In addition to the wider trustee duties set out in the Trustee duties, requirements and commitments (part B), the post-holder will provide strategic oversight, guidance and advice on proposed projects and initiatives including:

  • Bring forward the perspective of a clinical pharmacologist to Council as a trustee
  • Work with the Vice President Clinical and the Clinical Committee to identify the Society’s clinical pharmacology priorities and annual programme of activities for agreement by Council
  • Review education and training activities for clinical pharmacologists and trainees to maintain support for the specialism through the specialty registrar (StR) Subcommittee and the monthly CPT National Virtual Training programme.
  • Integrate the Society’s clinical activities with its events, training, policy and publishing portfolio wherever possible

The post-holder will be invited to join the Clinical Committee and may be invited to join, or express an interest in, contributing to Education and Training Committee and StR Subcommittee. In addition, the post-holder will be expected to support and work collaboratively with the Vice-Presidents and staff associated with the Society’s committees.

Person Specification

In addition to being a Voting Member of the Society (Early Career Member, Full Member, Retired Member, Fellow, or Honorary Fellow), the applicant will need to demonstrate a passion for the discipline of pharmacology and interest in or experience of one or more of the following:

  • education and training initiatives in clinical pharmacology
  • e-learning and developing novel education resources
  • organising scientific meetings
  • clinical pharmacology research in academia or industry
  • leading policy work
