Charlotte Barker
NIHR Advanced Fellow
Dr Charlotte Barker is an NIHR Advanced Fellow at the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health and a Registrar in Clinical Genetics at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust. After studying Medical Sciences at Cambridge, she completed her Medical Degree at the University of Oxford. Following the Oxford Academic Foundation Programme, she joined the Paediatric Infectious Diseases Research Group at St George's, University of London as a Clinical Research Fellow. Her PhD research focused on paediatric antimicrobial population pharmacokinetics and quantitative pharmacological approaches(pharmacometrics) for evidence-based dose optimisation. She also led the development of a new textbook, "Prescribing Medicines for Children", published by Pharmaceutical Press. She subsequently did an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship (ACF) in Paediatrics at UCL and then moved into Clinical Genetics, undertaking an ACF in Pharmacogenomics at KCL. Dr Barker’s current research is focused on the application of precision medicine technologies, including pharmacometrics and pharmacogenomics, to support individualised dosing strategies for paediatric renal transplant patients using novel precision dosing software.
