Deirdre Campion

Deirdre Campion graduated as a veterinarian from University College Dublin, Ireland. Having initially worked in veterinary practice, she completed a PhD in Veterinary Physiology in 1995. Her teaching is focused on veterinary pharmacology and therapeutics. Her commitment to education includes ensuring pharmacology is accessible to all students, guided by Universal Design for Learning principles. For this work in making pharmacology more inclusive, she has been recognised within her University as a UCD Faculty Partner for Universal Design for Learning, and internationally as a Distinguished Expert in Veterinary Education by the Academy of Veterinary Educators. She has served as Head of Subject for Veterinary Biosciences, and has participated on international site educational visitation panels in Europe and Asia, and served as Member of the European Committee of Veterinary Education (ECOVE). Her research interests bridge fundamental science and applied clinical practice and include the effects of xenobiotics on smooth muscle motility, and also medication errors in companion animal practice. She is Associate Editor for the journal Frontiers in Veterinary Science, pharmacology and toxicology section.
