Jonathan Elliott
Professor of Veterinary Clinical Pharmacology
Jonathan Elliott gained a veterinary degree from Cambridge University having undertaken a part II in Pharmacology. After spending a year as an intern at the University of Pennsylvania, he returned to Cambridge to undertake a PhD in vascular (biochemical) pharmacology after which he joined the Royal Veterinary College as a lecturer, devising a new elective course in clinical pharmacology for veterinary students. His research focused on vasoactive amines and digital blood vessels of the horse, characterising the receptors involved. He also investigated drugs to treat hypertension in cats, assisting pharmaceutical companies in registration of amlodipine and telmisartan for this purpose. He served as Vice Principal for Research for the RVC for 16 years (2004-2021) during which time he acted as Establishment Licence holder for the RVC and led their applications for Leader in Openness. He currently serves on the Council of Understanding Animal Research (BPS nominee). He served on the Veterinary Products Committee (advisory to the Veterinary Medicines Directorate) from 2002-2009, and as president of the European College of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology from 2018-2021.
