Mauro Teixeira

Mauro Teixeira is Professor of Immunology at the Institute of Biological Sciences and director of Center for Advanced and Innovative Therapies at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil. He obtained his MD at UFMG and his PhD at the National Heart and Lung Institute of the University of London. His work focus on the mechanisms underlying inflammatory responses and their role in the context of infection. He is specifically interested in the development of novel resolution-based therapies to treat infections. His clinical interest is mostly related to infectious diseases of local relevance and has conducted clinical trials with vaccines and therapies for the prevention and treatment of dengue, COVID-19, Chikungunya and influenza. He has served on the Editorial Board for the British Journal of Pharmacology for two 8 eight terms, initially as an editor and then as a senior editor (2018—2024). He is a member of the Brazilian Academy of Science (since 2009) and the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS 2012) and current president of the International Association of Inflammation Societies (IAIS, 2024-2026).
