The British Pharmacological Society has appointed a new Editor-in-Chief to the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, Dr Serge Cremers.

Dr Cremers is Director of Columbia University Irving Medical Center’s Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology Laboratory and Co-Director of the Translational Therapeutics Accelerator (TRx) at Columbia’s Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. He has been Reviews Senior Editor for the Journal since January 2017. He has led the Reviews Board and developed a programme of high-impact commissioned reviews and themed issues.

Dr Cremers will begin the role in January 2020, taking over from the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Prof Adam Cohen. Speaking about the appointment, Prof Cohen said:

To be Editor-in Chief of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology is to have the privilege of being in one of the most inspiring positions in the field. From this unique vantage point, you can see what colleagues all over the world are up to and assist in making their findings public. This - along with the incredibly good relations with my fellow editors and publisher - will be something I shall miss. But it gives me enormous pleasure that my post is taken by Serge, who will without any doubt take the journal into a bright future.

Dr Cremers said:

I am honoured to be selected as the next Editor-in-Chief of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. During his term, Prof Cohen has deepened the Journal’s connections with colleagues all over the world, strengthened the Editorial Board and overseen a considerable growth in submissions. I look forward to building on Adam’s work to attract even more high-level original work from  academia, regulatory authorities and industry, and to incorporate more new developments into publications such as precision medicine and artificial intelligence.

The Society’s President-Elect, Prof Sir Munir Pirmohamed, who led the recruitment panel, said:

The British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology serves a key purpose to the Society, in promoting and progressing the field of clinical pharmacology and therapeutics. At a time when the ways in which research is published and shared are changing, the Journal needs a bold vision for the future. I am confident that Serge, supported by our Editors and our publisher, will successfully guide the Journal through the years ahead.
