The Society is pleased to see that Professor Julia Buckingham has been made a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list, released on 9 June.
Julia has been honoured for services to biology and education, in recognition of her distinguished career as both a pharmacologist and an academic leader.
Julia is an Honorary Fellow of the Society and served as its President between 2004 and 2005. She is a past winner of the Society’s Gaddum Memorial Prize (1994) and AstraZeneca Women in Pharmacology Prize (2009).
She has been Vice-Chancellor and President of Brunel University London since 2012.
Professor Steve Hill, President of the Society, said:
“It gives me great pleasure to see Julia recognised with this honour. She has held high-level positions in pharmacology for over three decades, ever since being appointed to the Chair of Pharmacology at Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1987.
Her contributions to science, education and the British Pharmacological Society over the years means this honour could not be more richly deserved.
Coming so soon after the CBEs awarded to two other Society members in the New Year’s Honours list, it is further national recognition of the vital work done by pharmacologists.”
