Who is Full membership suitable for?
Academic researchers or teachers who typically:
- Received a PhD in pharmacology, or a related discipline, at least five years ago (excluding career breaks)*.
- Have been published in a peer-reviewed journal.
Clinicians who typically either:
- Hold certification in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics.
- Hold certification in another speciality with an interest in pharmacology.
- Hold a recognised postgraduate training position (e.g. ST3 or above) in clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, or a related speciality with an interest in pharmacology.
Industry scientists who typically:
- Have at least an undergraduate degree in pharmacology or a related discipline.
- Graduated at least five years ago (exclusive of significant career breaks)*.
- Have been published in a peer-reviewed journal.
Other professionals with an interest in pharmacology:
Such as:
- Pharmacists.
- Medicinal chemists.
- Individuals involved in regulatory affairs.
If you are still an undergraduate student, you should apply for Undergraduate membership. If you are still a postgraduate student or have graduated from an undergraduate or postgraduate degree less than five years ago, you should apply for Early Career membership.
What you need to apply
Applicants should provide:
- A CV outlining your studies and professional experience.
- A payment method of either:
- A credit or debit card.
- UK bank account details if opting for Direct Debit payments.
*Cost
BPS membership runs annually from January to December.
- Joining between January and September costs £105 (or £85 by Direct Debit).
- This will cover your membership until the end of December in that same year (maximum 12 months).
- This works out at less than £7.09 per month if you join at the beginning of January and pay by Direct Debit.
- Joining between October and December costs £131 (or £111 by Direct Debit).
- This will cover your membership for the remainder of that year and all of the following year (maximum 15 months).
- This works out at £7.04 per month if you join at the beginning of October and pay by Direct Debit.
Applicants from low-income, lower-middle-income, and higher-middle-income economies (as defined by the World Bank) will be eligible for a membership discount. This will be automatically applied to your initial application and any subsequent renewals.
UK taxpayers can claim income tax relief on their BPS Full membership. Full membership fees are 100% tax-deductible.
