Who is Career Break membership for?
Existing BPS members who are currently taking, or plan to take, an extended leave from work can apply for Career Break membership. This ensures you retain access to your existing member benefits without needing to pay membership fees.
Career Break membership is available to most existing members who are not currently working. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Those taking a career break for mental or physical health reasons.
- Those taking parental leave or other care responsibilities.
- Those taking a career break to travel or volunteer.
- Those going through redundancy or who are between jobs.
Members can initially apply for up to 12 months of Career Break membership, with the option to extend for an additional 12 months.
Benefits
You will keep all of your existing member benefits from your current membership for the duration of your Career Break membership.

You may be asked to provide proof of your career break.

Bursaries
BPS bursaries support our members to attend scientific events. They can help with registration, travel, accommodation, and caring costs.
