WCP 2022 will be held in Glasgow, the largest city in Scotland, and named one of the ‘World’s Top Ten Must See Cities’ by the Lonely Planet’s Best in Travel Guide, ‘European City of the Year 2011’, and a UNESCO City of Music. Glasgow regularly hosts major international conferences and events, including the 2014 Commonwealth Games, and has been named by leading international publications as one of the world’s ‘must-see’ destinations.

“Glasgow is one of the world’s friendliest cities.” Daily Telegraph

Glasgow is home to three Universities: Glasgow, Strathclyde and Glasgow Caledonian, all of which have strong life sciences departments and a major focus on pharmacology, drug discovery and drug development. Glasgow’s long history of medical science includes Joseph Black (carbon dioxide), Sir Joseph Lister (antisepsis) and Sir James Black (Nobel Prize winning developer of propranolol and cimetidine).

Glasgow offers WCP 2022 participants a vibrant, cosmopolitan and famously friendly city with beautiful architecture, a world-class congress centre and numerous cultural attractions. Glasgow is one of Europe’s most experienced cities in hosting large international conferences and participants are welcomed by a social programme that offers an authentic taste of Scotland. Glasgow is a safe city and, given its compact nature, visitors can easily get around the city on foot.

Before and after the congress, WCP 2022 participants will be able to enjoy world-class art galleries and museums and enjoy some of the world’s most breathtaking scenery, lochs, mountains, historic castles and golf courses – all within 30 minutes of Glasgow.

July is a perfect time of year to visit Scotland and typically the warmest month, with average temperatures of 20˚C. Glasgow also benefits from long hours of daylight at this time of year, with sunrise at around 0500hr and sunset at 2200hr.

The city is a fantastic base from which to explore Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city. It is another major tourist attraction with internationally recognized universities and a world-renowned medical school, and is within 50 minutes by car or train.

London, England’s capital city, and the UK’s airport hub, is not much more than an hour away by air (4 hours by train), and there are similar flight times between Glasgow and Amsterdam or Paris.

WCP 2022 will be held at the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre, which  is widely recognized as
a first class venue, with excellent facilities for up to 6,000 international participants, and a support staff
committed to delivering, along with the British Pharmacological Society, a hugely successful and memorable congress in 2022.

As WCP 2022 will be based in Glasgow’s city centre, attendees will have access to an extensive range of
nearby shopping facilities, world-class restaurants and friendly pubs and eateries.
