The Scottish Cardiovascular Forum is an annual event that attracts around 100 researchers with an interest in cardiovascular science. The conference was initially aimed at researchers from Scotland, but soon attracted interest from Northern Ireland and, more recently, from the Republic of Ireland. The 2018 event was held at Trinity College, Dublin.
The forum was founded by a group of like-minded pharmacologists in 1997 as a welcoming environment in which young researchers are encouraged to present, often for the first time. Recently, all abstracts have been published in a supplement to the journal, Heart.
This year’s Forum is to be held at the University of the Highlands and Islands in Inverness on Saturday 2 February 2019. It will be preceded by a Civil Reception hosted by Highland Regional Council in the historic Town House in Inverness on Friday 1 February 2019.
The keynote lecture, sponsored by ther British Pharmacological Society is entitled 'Life without oxygen! cerebrovascular modulation of blood flow to the oxygen-starved brain'. It will be delivered by Professor Damien Bailey from the University of South Wales.
There are sessions throughout the day during which students at every stage will present their findings, along with a poster session that will be judged during the lunch break. The British Pharmacological Society is also sponsoring bursaries for students to attend the meeting, as well as oral and poster presentation prizes.
Highland Council are hosting a civic buffet dinner for all delegates for the meeting on Friday 1 February from 19:00. This dinner is provided free of charge and we hope that many of you will be able to make it for an enjoyable evening. Please confirm attendance during registration and include and dietary requirements.
