The British Pharmacological Society’s Early Career Pharmacologist Advisory Group is recruiting a Chair

The British Pharmacological Society represents over 2,500 early career pharmacologists around the world – including undergraduates, postgraduates, recent graduates and those who have completed a relevant scientific or medical qualification in the last 5 years. Society members in the early stages of their career account for ~50% of the Society’s members and as a global community at the heart of pharmacology, the Society seeks to provide a range of benefits for members throughout all stages of their career. 

The Society’s Early Career Pharmacologist Advisory Group (ECPAG) represents the interests and views of these members and is their voice across all areas of the Society by providing a two-way communication between these members and the Society’s Council, Committees and Advisory Groups. Members of ECPAG develop and coordinate a number of high impact projects to raise the profile of pharmacology and ensure effective early career representation and support in all areas of the pharmacology community – across academia, industry and clinical settings, as well as in related disciplines and the broader scientific community.
The Chair provide leads on the work of ECPAG. This role is for a two-year term. 


The main responsibilities of the Chair are to:

  • Support the work of ECPAG by taking forward the ECPAG Vision.
  • Promote the profile of Early Career Pharmacologists within the Society, the pharmacology community and with wider audiences.
  • Chair group meetings and work with external groups and activities
  • Take a lead on liaising with Early Career member on other BPS Committees and Groups  
  • Take a leading role on specific projects relevant to early career pharmacologists
  • Attend regular meetings with the Early Career Trustee and BPS staff
  • Chair ECPAG meetings, which take place a minimum of three time per year
  • Provide feedback, alongside the wider group, to the Society and staff team on how best to support the early career community

  • Applications are open to all Undergraduate and Early Career Members of the Society, wherever they are in the world. Early career is defined as undergraduate members and graduate members who are not more than five years post terminal degree - BSc, MSc, PhD or medical qualification - (excluding career breaks of maternity/paternity leave)
  • We look for proactive members with enthusiasm and a track record of involvement with the pharmacology Community
