
Steve is Vice-President of Discovery Biology at AstraZeneca with accountability for Functional Genomics, Target Validation, Reagent Generation and Assay Development across all research sites. Prior to this he led the Screening Sciences and Sample Management department with accountability for implementing global strategies for Compound Management, the human tissue BioBank, Hit Discovery and Lead Optimisation biology support to preclinical discovery projects. Before joining AstraZeneca, Steve worked at GlaxoSmithKline for 24 years in various roles in early discovery.
He is currently Chair of the European Laboratory Research and Innovation Group (ELRIG), has served in many volunteer roles in the Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) including Chair of the SLAS Europe Council and of the Board of Directors of ELRIG. He chairs the International Advisory Board for the Centre of Membrane Protein and Receptor Research at the Universities of Nottingham and Birmingham, and serves on the Scientific Advisory Boards of EU-OPENSCREEN and Life Arc.
Steve was awarded an OBE in 2021 for services to science and the COVID19 response.
