The purpose of the A J Clark Studentship is to enable young scientists with degrees in pharmacology or related disciplines to carry out research in pharmacology leading to the degree of PhD in recognized departments in the UK or the Republic of Ireland. Candidates should intend to follow a career in Pharmacology.
The application form can be downloaded below. The starting stipends from 1 October 2013 are:
Year 1 - £18,527 in London and £16,364 elsewhere;
Year 2 - £19,489 in London and £17,339 elsewhere; and
Year 3 - £20,432 in London and £18,294 elsewhere.
The contribution to research costs is £5,000. Supervisors are expected to find the funds from within the research support for the students to attend at least one BPS meeting each year, including the official dinner. Nominating supervisors must have been BPS members for at least 3 years. Fees will be paid at the rate applicable to EU students.
Free Student Membership of the BPS is provided for the duration of the Studentship. The winners will be selected on the basis of the applications and interviews with short-listed candidates. We expect to see evidence that the student has been involved with the preparation of the project proposal. The primary selection criterion is the quality of the student, but the quality and suitability of the project and the likely quality of the supervision and facilities available will also be taken into account.
The deadline for 2015 applications is 31 October 2014. The application form will be available in due course.
